Welcome
This site displays the Graphic Design of David Thakar.
It has been more than 40 years since I graduated from Cal Poly with my degree in Graphic Communications/Design. When I first started, I was a Math major hoping to get into Cal Poly’s amazing Architecture program. While waiting to hear if I would be accepted, I talked to many people about their majors. Two of those people were friends in my building who were Graphic Communications majors. One was focusing on Print Management and the other on Graphic Design. I was so excited by the prospect of designing for print, I immediately knew then I wanted to be a Graphic Designer rather than an Architect.
The two pieces displayed on this page were done for my first year design classes and were originally executed in ink. The final execution for each took eight to ten hours. These reproductions were recreated in a few hours, in CorelDraw.
My Graphic Design career continues today. As a designer, I’ve gone from designing on a drawing table to desktop publishing. I’ve gone from designing for print to designing for the internet. I have designed Identities for companies and for products, cartons for bird feeders and for pharmaceuticals, and web sites for Fortune 500 companies and for Family Farms. One of the coolest experiences was designing a whole series of boxes for a local Massachusetts bird feeder manufacturer, and then while shopping with my mother near her home in California, seeing a huge display of those same bird feeders in the local drug store. And of course, I was honored to design the invitations for my daughter’s wedding.
I have used all the latest design and office management software on Window, Android, and Mac, and still work at the drawing table when necessary. In addition to Graphic Design, I have been creating and selling my fine art for well over 50 years. You can see my fine art at ArtByDevendra.com.
